To cope with this feeling of disconnection, Ones made themselves their own judges and critics. Sometimes, in especially religious households, the child felt that the God, or father, of their religion was a fearful being they had to work hard to “please.” It could also mean that that parent was distracted, arbitrary, overly strict, or overly lenient.
